ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN (AGAIN!)
The Sunset Party by Lusíadas Saúde on Saturday night was a success! Competitors from the Regata do Infante, Women on Water and employees from Lusíadas Saúde and BBDouro enjoyed an evening of socializing, music, dancing, food and a giveaway or two.
After a lightning dismantling of the entire festival site and a few hours of sleep, the BBDouro team returned to the office for the last day of the event.
At first glance, the second day of Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing seemed to be quieter than the first, but we knew better!
The day was largely dedicated to the girls from Women on Water, but there was a lot of activity across our entire fleet of boats, with various outings for Lusíadas Saúde employees and their families, with the Purple Team and with various charitable associations.
We couldn’t have ended this emblematic event in a better way.

WOMEN ON WATER PORTUGAL 2023 by NATIXIS
After a night of partying where the crews took the opportunity to relax and socialize, the morning kicked off again with the skippers’ briefing.
On the water, the teams of Patrícia Bastos (Sail la vie), Teresa Borges Coutinho (Cheers), Leonor Pereira (Sweet&Salty) and Elisa Sá Carneiro (Sai da Frente) fought for two semi-final places during the 3 races of the play-off phase. The wind blew harder than on Saturday and with some changes of direction, which forced a short suspension of the races to reposition the field. Sail la vie and Cheers came out on top and went on to the semi-finals together with SaltyBow (Sara Carmo) and Girls on Fire! (Margarida Aguiar), who had qualified the day before.
The semi-final also included three more races, all of which were hotly contested, with the wind always right but weak, and currents that required a lot of attention to each team’s strategy. In just over an hour, this stage of the championship was completed, leaving behind the Sail la vie team, which finished this stage in 4th place, with 10 points and only 1 and 2 points difference from Teresa and Margarida’s teams.
The final, scheduled for 2:15 p.m., pitted Mariana, Sara, Margarida and Teresa’s teams against each other, with a cheering crowd of husbands, children and the rest of the teams. Team Cocomelon were the first to score, after a penalty awarded to Miúdas on Fire! caused them to lose the lead in the first race. But the girls didn’t let up! They won the second race in an exciting finish between Margarida and Mariana, where it almost had to be confirmed with the VAR who should win.
We set off for the third race of the final with the Girls tied with the Cocomelons (both with 1 point each) and the Cheers and SaltyBow not scoring. The current played a key role in all the races of the final, leading to several changes of position throughout the two races. In the end, it was the team of Mariana, Francisca, Joana, Carlota and Maria who won the race, with a third race in which they led from start to finish after a “spineless” start.
In second place was the “Girls on Fire!” team, led by Margarida Aguiar, who were last year’s winners, while fellow Olympian Sara Carmo’s “SaltyBow” team rounded off the podium.
Well done girls!
2° – Girls on Fire! | Margarida Aguiar
3° – SaltyBow | Sara Carmo
4° – Cheers | Teresa Borges Coutinho
5° – Sail la vie | Patrícia Bastos
6° – Sweet&Salty | Leonor Pereira
7° – Sai da Frente | Elisa Sá Carneiro
This edition of Women on Water Portugal 2023, sponsored by Natixis in Portugal, has come to an end. It was an exciting two days of racing, with some of the best female crews in the country and beyond, in a meeting where 23 races were contested between 7 teams.
Thank you all for joining us for another championship on the Douro River, we hope to see you and more crews at next year’s edition.
Special thanks to Natixis and Team Purple for embracing this adventure with us.
LUSÍADAS HEALTH WALKS
The Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing event once again brought to the shores of Porto and Gaia a glimpse of several boats in constant navigation.
With the aim of promoting social inclusion in all its teams, Lusíadas Saúde promoted sailing baptisms and sailing trips for employees and their families on the last day of the event. The more adventurous opted for a baptism on Lusíadas Saúde’s First 7.5, and the more relaxed for a sailing trip on the Remédio Santo, which thus ended its summer season by Lusíadas Saúde with a new decoration on the hull.
Everyone had the chance to go sailing and get “the bug”. And because Lusíadas Saúde makes sure that no one is left out of these activities, the inclusive boat Lusíadas ForALL (INCA) sailed throughout the weekend with guests on board from various social associations.
The day didn’t disappoint and all the guests were able to enjoy the sun and warmth with a backdrop of the shores of Porto and Gaia, and with the bonus of the action right next door at the Women on Water regattas
For us, the balance is extremely positive, and we couldn’t be more grateful for having organized yet another Lusíadas Saúde event, with such a great impact on inclusion and diversity in national sailing.
We Do Sailing… And we take care of everyone with Lusíadas Saúde.
