On March 28, the routine stayed on dry land. The Douro Marina was the meeting point for 44 participants who accepted our challenge and dared to discover what sailing really means, at the Open Day of the BBDouro Nautical Experiences Adult Sailing Academy.
LETTING GO OF TIES AND TURNING OFF ENGINES
Divided into our small Sail-boats and accompanied by our experienced Skippers, the participants became real sailors. They took the rudder, felt the tension of the Sheet, learned the basics of sailing and worked as a team to make the boat glide across the water.
The initial anxiety of trying something new quickly gave way to genuine smiles, curious questions and a growing desire to learn more.
FROM CURIOUS TO PASSIONATE
When the Sail-boats returned to the marina, not much needed to be said: the impact of the experience could be seen in the expressions of those returning to land.
Between lively conversations and the sharing of those who already felt part of the crew, the feedback we received filled us with pride. Phrases like “It was spectacular!” and “We loved it!” marked the end of the morning.
Even so, the greatest achievement was repeatedly hearing the phrase that signals the start of a new journey: “We want to sign up!”. Seeing the enthusiasm of those who arrived just out of curiosity and left with a desire to master sailing is the true essence of our We Do Sailing community.
