IT ALL STARTED WITH A FLOATING BILLBOARD
Lusíadas Saúde and BBDouro have been sailing together since 2019.
It all started with a proposal for a floating billboard along the River Douro. Until 2022, we had one of our Beneteau Platu 25 sailing in Lusíadas blue; now, this billboard has been switched to a Beneteau First 7.5.
For more than four years, the brand has influenced millions of individuals who stroll along the banks of the River Douro, as well as thousands of BBDouro customers participating in sailing lessons or trials, and team-building activities.
That same year, the brand embraced the challenge of supporting the biggest regatta in northern Portugal: Regata do Infante.
THE LARGEST SAILING EVENT IN NORTHERN PORTUGAL
The task of organizing a massive sporting event that would promote the Lusíadas Saúde brand arose in 2020. This is how the Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing came about, which has now been held for four editions.
A singular sporting event that took place in Portugal over two weekends brought dozens of sailors to the banks of the Douro River, where the Lusíadas blue was the dominant hue!
The event, which was designed for athletes as well as Lusíadas Saúde staff members, included sailing boat tours for Lusíadas employees and their families as well as other awareness-raising activities.
“TODOS A BORDO” PROGRAM
In 2021, we launched our first national advertising campaign for Lusíadas Saúde!
Our 16-meter yacht traveled south all summer long while displaying the Lusíadas logo along the whole Algarve coastline.
Several Lusíadas staff members and their families joined the “Todos a Bordo” (All Aboard) program, which gave them access to leisurely sailing excursions during the summer.
A program that proved popular with the Lusíadas community and was kept going, with more days, more programs, and a regularly packed agenda (celebrating its third edition in 2023).
THE CHALLENGE OF BEING INCLUSIVE
Additionally, in 2021, Lusíadas Saúde and BBDouro made another significant advancement on their nautical adventure.
This year’s Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing served as the stage for the inauguration of the Inclusive Catamaran Lusíadas ForALL and opened the door to a new format for the event with the first inclusive regatta in Portugal and the organization of a Talk on Inclusion and Awareness.
INCA Lusíadas ForALL has been sailing under the Lusíadas brand ever since, supporting BBDouro ForALL in all the Solidarity Sailing and Barrier-Free Sailing tours and classes.
BBDouro and Lusíadas Saúde came up with novel ways to hold such a large-scale event safely in the year of Covid-19. They planned an awards ceremony on the sea with teams participating in their own boats and a band providing entertainment aboard a support boat.
The first all-inclusive sailing competition in Portugal gave everyone who was interested the chance to try sailing as a sport. For those who were up for the challenge of sailing inclusively, the INCA boat offered sailing rides throughout the event weekend.
For Lusíadas employees and their families, sailing boat tours were scheduled once more, and there was even a Walk of Employees.
PARTICIPANT RECORD
The third edition of Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing saw a record number of participants, with 57 boats parading down the River Douro during the XII Regata do Infante and Women on Water Portugal.
Once more, an all-inclusive event with a packed schedule of activities, seminars, and sporting competitions for staff members and athletes.
Three Lusíadas Saúde boats participated in the event, ensuring that the Lusíadas presence was not missed by everyone passing by the banks of the River Douro and the coast of Matosinhos.
PORTO, LISBOA AND VILAMOURA
The “Todos a Bordo” (All Aboard) initiative had previously sailed towards the capital for a brief visit on the Tagus River in 2022.
But 2023 broke attendance and scheduling records for the program tours, with the boat sailing along Vilamoura’s coastline from July to early September and in Lisbon for the whole month of June.
Additionally, as part of Lusíadas Saúde’s advertising initiatives, our sailboat, Lusíadas, received three different decorations in that year. Our floating billboard altered its decoration at LSPS 2023 to promote the new Hospital de Santa Maria da Feira. In Lisbon, it featured a design supporting the Lusíadas Saúde brand. In Vilamoura, it promoted the new Lusíadas Vilamoura Hospital.
