UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURES
This summer, BBDouro provided an unforgettable experience for 410 children of 18 different nationalities. The Foz do Douro estuary nature reserve was once again the stage for our Summer Sailing Camp, where little sailors learned to sail with lots of fun to boot.
For eleven weeks, our facilities at the Douro Marina were filled with energy and provided exciting days with little, medium and lots of wind for all those who dared to set foot on our light sailing fleet powered by Goldenergy.
THE BEST MONITORS HAD THE HELP OF OUR SUPER STUDENTS FROM THE JUNIOR ACADEMY
The soul of our Summer Sailing Camp is our instructors and helpers. This summer, 15 instructors and 10 students from our dedicated Junior Academy welcomed new sailors every week, teaching them the secrets of sailing and showing them how to have fun at sea. Every day, starting at 9:30 am, these young sailors immersed themselves in nautical activities, learning how to assemble a boat, how to make sailor’s knots, how to sail with the wind and, above all, how to work on their self-confidence and make friends.
THE JOY OF LEARNING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FRIENDSHIP
Each week brought a new group of excited children and a new diploma ceremony, where the monitors did their best to close the week on a celebratory note! Our friend T-Rex didn’t show up as often as usual, but he made a point of being present for the closing week of the best summer camp in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
As well as all the sailing and playing, our young sailors also learned the importance of looking after our planet. With weekly clean-ups of Afurada beach, we passed on the message of the importance of preserving the environment for future generations.
FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND ADVENTURE UNDER THE PORTO SUN
When we think of our Summer Sailing Camp, we think of a whole week of children learning to sail and riding on a sailing boat; but these camps are much more than that. They are weeks that create countless memories for everyone who takes part, and that will last a lifetime.
As always, the good weather invited many dives and jumps into the water, which generated contagious laughter and smiles. Each child who took part took with them not only sailing skills, but also strong friendships and the best memories of the summer of 2023.
Our photo albums speak for themselves: smiling faces, boats full of blue and green energy and the unforgettable landscape of Foz do Douro. Each week, we didn’t just see new sailors, we saw dreamers, adventurers and lovers of the sea in every child. At BBDouro, we are happy to know that we have contributed to another year of incredible experiences on the river and that we have inspired a new generation of sailing lovers.
Our 2023 Summer Sailing Camp was a success, thanks to all the new little sailors, the dedicated monitors and helpers and the support of all the parents who arranged pick-up and drop-off times.
We’re looking forward to next summer, where we hope to create more wonderful memories and share the joy of sailing with even more children.
