On 20 May 2025, BBDouro Nautical Experiences organised another edition of the ‘Open Day Solidarity’, an event that has already become a symbol of inclusion and social commitment in the city of Porto. With the aim of making sailing accessible to everyone, regardless of physical, cognitive or social limitations, the initiative brought together 25 participants who had the opportunity to live a unique experience aboard BBDouro ForALL’s inclusive catamaran.
This year, the event had the fundamental support of three outstanding partners: STB, Savills and Católica Porto Business School. Each of these sponsors contributed by bringing along participants from institutions and social causes they support, providing them with a memorable morning or afternoon on the River Douro, aboard the INCA boat and accompanied by BBDouro team members who volunteered for the occasion.
‘We hope that everyone enjoys it, that they don’t feel limited and that they feel that we can all do anything if we want to and if we all collaborate with each other,’ said Pedro Carneiro, a representative of Católica Porto Business School, emphasising the value of the initiative.
During the event, smiles were constant, the stories shared were moving and empathy sailed side by side with the flavour of the sea. Many of the participants experienced the sensation of being on a sailing boat for the first time, breaking down personal and social barriers.
“This is the second time I’ve come sailing. Last year we were here on a Saturday, we went sailing and went out into the Atlantic Ocean for a bit. It was a marvellous experience – I really enjoyed it. In fact, both times it was a dream come true.”
– Jefte Barajas, participant in the Salvador Association

The organisation was entirely the responsibility of the BBDouro Nautical Experiences team, with employees volunteering to be on the ground, supporting logistics and carrying out the river trips. This personal and professional commitment reflects the brand’s and the group’s commitment to social responsibility and the promotion of sailing as a truly inclusive sport.
“Yesterday was a truly special day for BBDouro. Without using external skippers, our own team organised this day, which was also an excellent moment of internal team building, uniting us around a mission: to make sailing accessible to those who don’t usually have the opportunity.
We welcomed 25 participants, spread across 4 different institutions, for a unique experience that reinforces what we believe: sailing can and should be a space for inclusion and sharing.”
– João Pinto Ribeiro, Sales Management
The Solidarity Open Day is more than just a day on the river. It’s a celebration of equal opportunities, empathy and collaboration between everyone. And it will continue, year after year, to show that, with the right wind, we can all move forward.
