May was a special month 💙
With the full support of Redifogo – Materiais de Proteção e Segurança, every week young people and adults from CAID – Cooperativa de Apoio à Integração do Deficiente said “good morning” to our team with a smile on their faces, ready to venture down the Douro River in one of our sailing boats.
Technical Director Guida Neto shared with us that this was “an activity that most of them would never experience otherwise”. For us, this was yet another experience that reinforced the importance of our ForALL projects.
The charity baptisms were offered by Redifogo to CAID, in an action that the company repeats every year.
The association between BBDouro and Redifogo dates back to 2013, through the Sailing Cup Regatta, and is a fundamental part of all BBDouro’s safety elements. In 2015, our boat #9 started wearing Redifogo’s colors and sailing even more safely on the Douro River.
BBDouro ForALL was founded in 2014, dedicated solely and exclusively to promoting social projects. It consists of the “Vela Solidária” and “Vela sem Barreiras” projects. The target audience is disadvantaged children and young people who live in foster care or are part of social groups or projects, and people with disabilities, respectively.
Since 2016, BBDouro has had the world’s first catamaran, developed in Portugal in partnership with Inclusive Sailing, for people with motor and/or psychological disabilities, which can accommodate four wheelchairs on the central platform and is 100% adapted to the needs of our activity.
Currently named Inclusive Catamaran Lusíadas ForALL (or INCA to its friends!), it has been thought out in detail to guarantee a safe experience and barrier-free learning.
