THE CLOSING PARTY OF THE BBDOURO SUMMER SAILING CAMP 2023
To celebrate the end of the 2023 Summer Sailing Camp season, BBDouro has organized an epic event, the long-awaited “Big End Party”. Held on the afternoon of September 16, the party marked the end of a summer full of adventures and lessons in the Foz do Douro estuary nature reserve.
AN EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
All the little sailors who took part in the Summer Sailing Camps were invited to the party. A total of 33 children and their families attended, filling the Douro Marina with color and energy. It was a party for all ages, where the little ones had the opportunity to teach the older ones (or was it the other way around?).
NAUTICAL CHALLENGES FOR THE SAILORS OF THE FUTURE
The afternoon was full of exciting challenges. The families took part in a nautical gymkhana, where the children had the chance to show their parents everything they had learned during their week at Summer Sailing Camp. The stations were strategically distributed, each with a different challenge:
〰️ at the Wind Station, they had to identify where the wind was coming from;
〰️ at the Knotting Station, they showed how to make a sailor’s knot (between the right-hand knot, the slipknot and the figure-of-eight knot);
〰️ at the Boat Station, they identified all the different parts of the boat;
〰️ at the Sailing Station, they demonstrated their sailing skills;
〰️ at the Green Planet Station, they helped clean up the beach;
〰️ at the Maneuvering Station, they showed that they knew how to tack or jibe;
〰️ and at the Navegation Station, they taught their parents everything they knew about sailing (up-wind, reach and down-wind).
THE BIG WINNERS
The family that completed the challenge the fastest won a free month at BBDouro’s Junior Academy. And since everyone is a winner, at the end of the challenge everyone was rewarded with the best chocolate cake and fruit juice.
Iris Belkdif and her family proved to be the fastest, taking home the coveted prize.
But there was still time for a raffle of four individual free monthly fees for all the participants. Gabriel Castro, Martim Rodrigues de Castro, Martim Fortes Oliveira and Miguel Lopes were the lucky winners of the draw.
We look forward to these 5 little sailors, and all the other participants, for incredible weekends at our Junior Academy!
The “Big End Party” not only marked the end of the 2023 Summer Sailing Camp, but also sealed the memories of an incredible summer of sailing, friendship and adventure.
