The 29er Porto World Sailing Championship 2025 promises to be one of the most exciting events in the history of this class, with the cities of Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos proudly hosting this international fleet. Taking place from 1 to 8 August 2025 and organized by BBDouro Nautical Experiences, this championship brings together 202 teams and a total of 404 young athletes representing 26 countries.
The 29er, a 2.9-meter boat, is considered to be the youngest and most dynamic boat in competitive sailing, designed as a transition class to the Olympic 49er and 49er FX. This championship, which promises to be one of the most competitive in the history of the class, will showcase the future talents of international sailing.
In addition to the intense competition at sea, a comprehensive cultural and educational program is planned, involving workshops, lectures with Olympic athletes, sustainability actions and moments of celebration with strong involvement from the local community.
Opening Ceremony
The event officially kicks off on August 2, with the opening ceremony at the Douro Marina, after a parade of sailors through the historic streets of Afurada, in Vila Nova de Gaia. Athletes and coaches will be officially welcomed with the traditional opening speeches, which will mark the official start of the championship. Each team will then hoist its national flag, which will remain flying until the last day of the event.
